Don’t scrimp on the cheaper cameras. Always go for HD’s high quality images! The high definition footage is vital for capturing burglaries at night time and can be used in a Police prosecution.

Beware of bright shiny things. Just because something is new on the market, it doesn’t mean it is better than proven equipment that has been properly tested over several years.

Get cameras that are vandal-resistant and have a 2.8/12mm varifocal lenses so you have a choice of what you want to see.

Ask your CCTV system installer about the recorder

Ensure that your system has:

• enough memory on the hard drive to store 30 days of recording; and
• non-stop playing, not motion detect.

Motion detect recording works like a security light – it only starts to record footage when movement is detected. This type of system isn’t the most reliable, so we recommend a continuously recording CCTV system. That means, if there was an incident, you can rest assured it would be recorded.

Ask your supplier to install the app onto your mobile devices so you can view playback from wherever you are.
