Why Fire Extinguisher Accidents Should Make You Think About Your Security Maintenance
Fire Extinguisher accidents are not often in the news but, when they are, it’s explosive stuff! In June 2023, the international news media were all reporting how a school fire drill in Thailand ended tragically. A fire extinguisher exploded, killing one high school student and injuring 21 others.

In March 2023, a man on an industrial site in Oldbury, West Midlands, was killed by the extinguisher he was handling.

In November 2022, a Plymouth man servicing a fire extinguisher was injured in the city centre.

Another man was killed in 2021 by a catastrophic failure of a corroded cartridge-operated fire extinguisher whilst working on an oil rig.

These are just a few significant events that have occurred in the last couple of years and there are many other deaths, injuries and near misses.

SO WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT FIRE EXTINGUISHERS WHEN WE ARE A SECURITY INSTALLER?

Extinguishers are a fantastic life saving piece of equipment when correctly maintained, but they can be deadly if not!

Whilst not maintaining your security systems might not have such explosive consequences, it can be extremely disruptive financially.

Why Fire Extinguisher Accidents Should Make You Think About Your Security Maintenance

If your gates and barriers are not maintained correctly, they could cause an injury to staff or visitors… and involve you in a costly compensation claim.

If your CCTV cameras are not serviced regularly, their footage might not show the intruder who walks away with your valuable property. The Police may not be able to retrieve your stock or prosecute the criminal.

If your intruder alarm’s battery is not replaced, there may be false alarms that upset your neighbours costing you good will.

Or stop your staff from working costing you a lot of money in lost productivity.

Or an alarm that doesn’t go off when you actually need it to alert the Police about a burglar. The criminal goes free with his loot and is free to return another day.
