Don’t Give Thorpe Bay Burglars A Second Chance!
Richard and June are pensioners from Thorpe Bay. They enjoy their hard-earned retirement. They fill it with rambling, regular day trips to visit castles and historical sites across the country and weekend City breaks from the local Southend airport.
Sadly, one trip didn’t quite go according to plan. After the coach had dropped them off, they walked the short distance back to their home. It was quite late and they were both desperate for a cuppa.
As soon as Richard opened the door, he knew that something wasn’t quite right. The house was cold – which was to be expected after a few days without the heating. But this was more than a slight chill.
He quietly put down the suitcases and turned to June with his finger against his lips.
She immediately looked alarmed.
Walking down the hall, he noticed the door of the lounge was ajar. That was wrong. He knew he had closed it before they went away.
Gingerly touching it with his toe, the door swung open. And that’s when it hit him…
Unhappy homecoming
Their lovely lounge looked like a bomb had hit it. Furniture was overturned. Photograph frames smashed. Drawers and cupboards had been rifled through and the contents discarded all over the floor. One of the windows was broken.
Richard knew it was time to call the Police. The devestated couple retired to the porch while they waited. When the officers arrived, they helped Richard to search the house to ensure it was empty.
And then the officers explained what had probably happened. The burglars’ MO had been to look for detached homes with no security and no lights on inside.
If the intruders could get around the back, they threw something through a window. If there was no activity from inside the house, they knew it was empty. So they had time to find the easiest way to get inside.
Further examination revealed the brick in their lounge. Along with a muddy footprint on the dresser beneath the broken window where someone had climbed through.
Sadly, it was not enough evidence to catch the villains. With no CCTV camera footage to identify them, they got away scot free…
They had stolen some cash but the worst loss was June’s jewellery. She didn’t have huge amounts. But some of the pieces were irreplacable and had huge sentimental value. June was distraught.
Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted?
Richard and June decided to invest in a burglar alarm and CCTV system with a mobile app. They wanted to be sure that their Thorpe Bay home was safe whenever they went away. And they wanted the ability to check this on their mobile from wherever they were.
But, most of all, they wanted to be sure that the cameras would record HD footage of any future break in attempts. Some people might think: “But they’ve already stolen everything of value, so what’s the point?”
The stats say that many burglars return to the scene of their crimes. Usually allowing sufficient time for the insurance money to replace what was previously stolen. Time for a second bite at the cherry if the security has not been beefed up.
