Mother And Son Protected By Security Cameras

Nothing prepares you for the impact of an invasion of your home.

Whether it is a brick through your window, the theft of your car from the drive or, terror of terrors, an intruder getting inside.

Zoe told us about the ongoing panic attacks she endures after someone tried to break in to her house.

She and her 3 year old son, Harry, had returned home after a happy afternoon at a Southend soft play centre.

It was 5.30pm on a dark, rainy November evening. As soon as she opened the front door, she knew something was wrong. And when she turned on the light, she saw the glass everywhere.

Carrying her young son, she was restricted to the use of one arm. And that was holding on to the door frame to steady herself as she tried to decide what to do. As her mind raced, her body felt paralysed by fear.

Was someone still in her house?

Fortunately, a neighbour came to help. He searched the house to make sure that it was empty. And helped her to clear up the glass. The Police came but there was nothing obvious that could be used as evidence.

When everyone had gone, Zoe was left to spend the night with her small son and a bucketload of fear.

Until it happens to YOU, it’s easy to say: “Oh, it was only an attempted burglary!”

The following morning, Zoe was able to work out what had happened.

Like many Southend houses, her two-up, two-down end of terrace home has a shared driveway. It runs past her kitchen window and down the side of the house to garages behind the block of properties.

On the other side of this drive was a new construction site with piles of building materials all around it. It had become a magnet for local teenagers.

Someone had thrown a brick through her kitchen window.

Whether this was vandalism or an attempted burglary that had been interrupted, she will never know.

There were no security cameras to reveal the full timeline of what had happened. Or to identify the culprits.

Security cameras on a budget

Zoe asked us for some home security solutions. So one of our team visited her home to carry out a survey.

There were several vulnerable areas but Zoe was on a budget.

We recommended:

Both of these act as a deterrent to anyone up to no good. They make it easy for bad guys to be seen, identified and caught in the act.

And it’s a system that can grow. In the future, when funds allow, Zoe will be able to integrate the cameras with one of our home alarms.

Can I get the Police to come?

When your home security system is fitted and maintained by an approved company like Eastern Security, you can have it monitored for a Police Response.

Zoe now has protection in place but, a year later, Harry still talks about the day the window was broken. And she is still on medication to control the panic attacks.
